Estate Planning

Estate Planning

Estate Planning is about planning to protect the interests of your family, both in the short term and with an eye to the future.

The foundation of a strategic Estate Plan are the following three documents: 1. Will; 2. Power of Attorney; and 3. Representation Agreement. Your Will is the document in which you explain what you want done with your “Estate” when you die. Your “Estate” consists of any land, house, money, investments, personal items and other assets that you own. The purpose of a Will is to pass on your assets to your loved ones according to your wishes and with as few problems as possible. If you pass away without a Will you will not likely be happy with the distribution rules set out by the government.

A Power of Attorney is a legal document whereby you appoint another person, called an “Attorney”, to make financial and legal decisions on your behalf. This is extremely helpful if you are out of town or if you have a sudden illness.

A Representation Agreement is a legal document whereby you appoint another person, called a “Representative”, to make personal care and health care decisions on your behalf
