Spousal Sponsorship Latest Updates December 2016

The government of Canada has introduced changes to the application process for spousal sponsorship under the family class stream. The aim is to improve efficiency and reduce the processing time for applications under this program, which the government hopes will lead to more Canadian family reunifications.

Now, applicants are encouraged to link their application to an online account for easier communication with IRCC officer and to receive requests for certain documents.

Medical examination forms and police certificates, are being requested later in the process.
